Following flooding and landslides caused by heavy rain in the Funchal area of Madeira there are reports of over 30 people killed and a number of people injured. Transport on the island is badly affected although the airport is operating normally. Communications have suffered some disruption. Families and friends concerned about British nationals on the island should call the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on 020 7008 1500 for further information. For those about to travel to the island we strongly advise you contact your travel company or airline before travelling." |
